I’ve written some essays I’d like to share with you. The first is on a topic my mom picked out for me to write about, giving me a free choice of words and not minding anything I say.
It Should Be Mom’s Job.
Cleaning the kitchen is in fact, the worst chore ever: even above cleaning the bathroom and doing the laundry. The kitchen is dirty with food everywhere. It’s stunk up with old trash and food. I believe it should have to be mom’s job.
More into the topic of the old food. In the kitchen there is spilled food everywhere: on the stove, the counters and the floor. The dishwasher sometimes leaves food on the dishes and it’s absolutely gross when you miss it while putting up the dishes. It makes me feel dirty all over after cleaning in the kitchen, like I need a shower.
The kitchen also stinks. Especially when the refrigerator is cleaned out and the old food is removed and thrown away, it stinks and moldy food messes with your allergies. And when the trash bags are tied and set aside until there’s a reasonable amount to take to the dumpster, it stinks and sometimes leeks out what I call “trash juice” on the floor. Also plates of old food pile up on the counters and around the sink until it stinks.
Cleaning the kitchen should be mom’s job. She makes the food. She lets dishes pile up and start stinking. She leaves the trash sit until it stinks.
Cleaning the kitchen is the worst chore because it looks gross and makes me feel gross. It smells horrible and makes you sneeze, cough, get itchy watery eyes, etc. It’s one of mom’s rooms and she should have to clean it.
The second essay was one I wrote for an online Fortuigence essay-writing course. It took a while to write but it turned out great.
Why I Love Having Birthday Parties. By: Catie
Birthday parties are pleasant; I love having them. For me, birthday parties are the best. With all the fun you get to have, and the people who love you, it makes your day a special day. Having birthday parties gives you great opportunities and many gifts. There are many reasons for enjoying your birthday party. A few examples are sharing good news and secrets, playing games and laughing with your sleep-talking, sleep-walking friends. So now, I’m going to tell you why I love having birthday parties.
I love having birthday parties because you get to play a lot of joyful games and do lots of exciting activities. I like playing Underground Church or Murder or Two Truths And A Lie. Murder and Two Truths And Lie start a lot of sarcasm and laughing. As in “You’re awfully quiet, how do we know you’re not the murderer?” There’s also being silly like pretending to die in Murder and looking like you’re having a seizure, or pretending to faint at the sight of your best friend on the floor. Also, in Two Truths and A Lie you can find out things about your friends you never knew or laugh at the silly lies they make up for the game.
Another cool thing about birthday parties is the uncontrollable laughing and giggling. I love it when I get to talk with my friends and probably end up singing the new Disney movies’ songs. Then there’s the opportunity to pick out what you have for dinner that day and what flavor cake you want. I love eating cake with my family. This year I’m looking forward to my birthday party cake, root beer flavored chocolate cake or in other words Root Beer Cake.
Another reason I love birthday parties is because when you have a party you get to see everyone you love. It’s one of the few times you see all of your friends from different places, together at the same place. My friends live all over the place, anywhere from five minutes away to two and a half hours away. Plus, all of your family gathers together to make that day a special day for you and your birthday. On top of that, you get presents and love. You can get cool things you wanted from the store or hand-made things with sentimental value. You can get taken shopping and pick out what you get or get money so you can buy what you wanted but didn’t get. You can get love and hugs from those you love too.
A fun birthday party my brother and sister had was a Phineas and Ferb birthday party. Inspired by the “Swinter” episode, where Phineas and Ferb used a snow cone machine to make their backyard into a ski resort-type place, my brother and sister had a snowball fight in the middle of spring. With old boxes for bricks to make mini forts and wadded up newsprint paper for snowballs, our friends enjoyed pelting people with paper snowballs.
Some of my birthday party memories are from my red carpet themed birthday party and my friends dressed up like celebrities or what they want to be when they grow up. My best friend dressed up as Taylor Swift with a knee-length white dress and cow girl boots. I also had a two-layer birthday cake and the top layer looked like a bag of popcorn. Later that night we played Underground Church, which is like Hide and Seek but with a base. Another time I had a friendship party and we had about fifteen girls at my house playing underground church. (Have you ever tried to hide fifteen girls in four rooms? It is almost impossible: sometimes two to five girls have to hide in the same place). That night we were up until well after midnight playing and no one had trouble going to sleep after laying down to a movie. The next day when we all woke up, my friend Summer said she heard someone sleeping on the floor, sleep talking and saying, “No don’t take away my sandwich! That’s MY SANDWICH!” Then I asked, “Did anyone dream about someone taking their sandwich?” So my friend Emma sat up and said “I was! How did you know?!” I told her that Summer heard her sleep talking, then Emma pointed to my friend Zoe who was laying next to her and said “She was trying to take my sandwich!” Then Zoe said sarcastically “It just looked so good!” All of the girls in the room started laughing!
Now I’m looking forward to my birthday party next week, it’s going to be a mystery dinner party and all of my friends have a character that they all love! I can’t imagine the sarcasm that’s going to be used, the laughter at the over-exaggerating actors, and the delicious meal with the nicely dressed table. There will be fun games played throughout the mystery. Also, while trying not to be greedy, I can’t wait to see what gifts I get. So that is why I LOVE having birthday parties!! Do you love having birthday parties??
And so now you’ve read both. Do you see the difference between the first essay and the second? The second is better than the first after doing the Fortuigence course and being taught how to better write an essay My favorite topic would have to be the Birthday parties one. I was afraid at first when I wrote the first essay, because I thought I might say something offensive to my mom. But now that she’s seen it and approves, I don’t mind it anymore. Which do you like better?
